Take an Environmental Stand

The U.S. generates approximately 1.3 billion gallons of used oil each year, and only 10 percent of it is re-refined. It’s an amazing statistic in light of the decades-long push for recycling of other items, like water bottles and newspapers. And it gets worse: The overwhelming majority of used oil is either improperly disposed of, which damages the environment, or is burned as an industrial fuel, which doesn’t do the environment much good either. But now a few companies are trying to reverse this unnecessary waste by re-refining used oil.

Universal Lubricants ECO ULTRA is environment-friendly recycled motor oil that is certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API). It also meets the requirements and specifications of vehicle manufacturers and the Society of Automotive Engineers. When used for an average 5-quart motor oil change, recycled products like ECO ULTRA reduce the nation’s need to import two barrels of imported oil every time.

“ECO ULTRA empowers consumers and businesses across the nation to be active stewards of the environment and to promote America’s shift towards greater energy security,” says John Wesley, chief executive officer of Universal Lubricants. “With one simple and affordable switch to our high-quality synthetic blend recycled motor oil, anyone can take a stand against avoidable pollution and foreign oil dependence.”

Utilizing a tightly controlled closed-loop process, Universal Lubricants collects used motor oil from across the country, processes it through the company’s technologically advanced refinery, and then blends the re-refined oil into high-quality motor oils and lubricants that meet SAE requirements. While some might worry about using oil twice, the company engages in rigorous lab testing and tough real-world use to ensure performance and reliability. The company has 28 facilities in 14 states and operates one of the world’s most advanced re-refineries in Wichita, Kan.
