Which Big Cities Have the Worst Drivers?

Report from Allstate points out the large urban areas with the poorest drivers.

Yesterday we told you about the best drivers in America, based on the seventh annual Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report, and we all learned that small-city drivers are generally less likely to be involved in collisions than those from large urban areas. But that, of course, begs the question: Which big cities with 1 million or more inhabitants have the least-safe drivers in America? Well, we at Driving Today live our lives to answer just such questions, so here it goes:

Counting down from the city with the ninth worst drivers to the No. 1 worst of the worst, we have:

  • Phoenix (whose drivers are just slightly more likely to get into a collision than the national average)
  • San Diego
  • San Antonio
  • Houston
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • New York City
  • Los Angeles
  • Philadelphia

Again, according to the experts at Allstate, it is driver behavior that can make a big difference. So as a driver, make sure you keep proper distance and avoid road rage. If the weather conditions are inclement, pay special attention to the road surface and other drivers.
