The first place to look for your next living room wall color is your upholstery, drapery and carpet -- in other words, the biggest items in the living room! If you’re looking for a neutral color and you have a yellow-beige sofa or carpet, for example, then it's a complementary yellow-beige may likely be the best choice.

If you want a bolder color, you should still be choosing from a prominent color already in the room. But remember that three tiny green flowers in a cushion is typically not a good enough reason to paint the room green -- especially if there are other more dominant colors in the room to choose from. Your wall color should help pull your space together, not set the tone for it (or, worse, make everything else feel out of place!).
